Youth Development Program
Mission:
To provide youth with hands on opportunities, experiences, and additional understanding of working in the agriculture industry with outcomes of gaining a strong work ethic, fostering relationships, and obtaining a position at Northfork Farms & Outback, LLC.
Applicants that apply and are accepted into the Northfork Youth Development Program will go through five divisions of Northfork Farms & Outback, LLC. The divisions are as listed below along with the learning outcomes of each…
Horse Management
- Manage stall cleanliness
- Feeding and understanding schedules and dietary needs
- Assisting riding instructor with lesson program
- Support daily, weekly, and monthly horse chores
- Actively assist lesson instructor with preparation of students and classes
Animal Care
- Learn about habitats of domestic and exotic animals
- Gain knowledge of each species diet and feeding needs
- Manage petting zoo chores
Event Management
- Learn about the various field trip packages offered at Northfork
- Gain an understanding of the reservation process
- Participate in the execution of field trips
- Assist in the setup and teardown of field trip activities
- Learn about each exhibit and how to present to attendees
Farm Management
- Learn yard management skills
- Participate in upkeep and improvement of various flower beds
- Gain a better understanding of improvement/replacement plans
Facility Management
- Participate in setting, tearing down, and cleaning of facilities
- Gain a better understanding of each facility
Program Incentives/Rewards:
Throughout this program individuals participating will have fun and exclusive opportunities offered which could include swimming, offsite trips, additional riding time, etc.
